Established in 2004, SMG Training is owned and operated by Sharon Grant, providing qualifications, courses and continuing professional development (CPD) for the dental team. Based just outside Preston, Lancashire, SMG Training provides tailored courses to suit any dental practice throughout the UK.
Our speciality is Radiation Protection, which is a core CPD subject for all the dental team, and we take pride in providing knowledgeable courses from one hour CPD to the full Certificate in Dental Radiography for Dental Nurses.
Continuing Professional Development courses in all subjects, are held throughout the year at various locations in Lancashire, primarily to meet demand from local practices. We aim to cover the Core CPD subjects of Medical Emergencies, Cross Infection Control and Legislation with our main focus being Radiation Protection. In addition we provide short courses in all aspects of dentistry and can tailor CPD to the needs of the individual.
Qualification Courses
National Certificate In Dental Nursing
Provision of the National Certificate in Dental Nursing has been suspended until January 2012 (for the Nov 2012 exam). This is due to substantial changes in the course syllabus being implemented by the NEBDN and the GDC over the next 12 months. SMG Training has decided rather than attempting to provide the course while the changes are being made and consequently inconveniencing students, instead to wait until all the changes have been fully implemented.
The new look National Certificate will be available from January 2012 and the waiting list will be opened from January 2011.
Certificate in Dental Radiography
Applicants must be qualified and registered dental nurses or hygienists. All applicants must have access to the full range of radiographs. For further details see radiation protection.

Competency Courses (Scope of Practice)
Certificate of Competency in Impression Taking
Applicants must be qualified and registered dental nurses with access to patients needing impressions. For further details see courses.
Certificate of Competency in Advanced Oral Health
This course combines the Certificate in Oral Health Education with competencies in fluoride application and plaque indices. For further details see courses.
Continuing Professional Development
