Welcome to the website of SMG Training, a Lancashire based training company for dental care professionals.
Established in 2004, SMG Training is owned and operated by Sharon Grant and Julia Harvey, providing qualifications, courses and continuing professional development (CPD) for the dental team. Based just outside Preston, Lancashire, SMG Training provides tailored courses to suit any dental practice throughout the UK.
Our speciality is Radiation Protection, which is a core CPD subject for all the dental team, and we take pride in providing knowledgeable courses from one hour CPD to the full Certificate in Dental Radiography for Dental Nurses.
Continuing Professional Development courses in all subjects are held throughout the year at various locations in Lancashire. We aim to cover all the Core CPD subjects with our main focus being Radiation Protection. In addition we provide short courses in all aspects of dentistry and can tailor CPD to the needs of the individual.
We can provide in-house training especially tailored for the needs of your dental practice from short CPD courses to qualifications and we now offer online courses in various subject areas.
Dental Nurse Training: Qualifications
This course is not available online and runs annually commencing in November for the examination in June the following year (8 months duration). Applicants must be qualified dental nurses or hygienists and working in an environment which lends itself to the taking of radiographs of all types. We do not accept applications from registered dental nurses who do not hold a recognised qualification. The course is run in the Preston area at night school.
This course is not available online and runs bi-annually commencing in January for the examination in September (9 months duration). Applicants must be qualified dental nurses and working in an environment which regularly undertakes dental treatment under sedation. We do not accept applications from registered dental nurses who do not hold a recognised qualification. The course is run in the Preston area at night school.
This online programme is available to qualified and registered dental nurses working in dental environments where prevention is of major focus. This course is delivered online only with full tutor support. The course can be started at any time and works towards the NEBDN examinations in either March or September as appropriate.
A Certificate of Competency in Fluoride Application and Plaque Indices is also included.

Dental Nurse Training: Other courses
This course is open to all dental care professionals and provides training to allow the taking of dental impressions. The course is largely practical and for that reason is not available online. The course runs twice a year at various locations around the north of England, please contact us for details of the next one. Following completion, a Certificate of Competency is awarded allowing the DCP to undertake dental impressions for study models, bleaching trays, bite guards, gum shields and retainers. We can also provide this course in- house if required.
